COURSE DESCRIPTION
This workshop is designed to provide the first aider with the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills to safely and effectively treat both open and closed skin wounds.
COURSE CONTENT
The following topics are covered through a combination of lectures, practical sessions and scenarios:
- Body substance isolation techniques - Personal protective equipment
- Wound definition
- Types of wounds: Open vs. closed. High-risk vs. low-risk wounds
- Stopping the bleeding: Direct pressure, tourniquets, pressure points
- Examination: Neurovascular function, distal pulses, capillary refill, color, sensation, temperature and exploration
- Anesthesia: Topical, local and alternative techniques
- Cleansing and debridement: Irrigation and scrubbing - cleaning solutions
- Closure and packing: Taping, sutures, stapling, glues
- Dressing and bandaging
- Infection: Antiseptic ointments
Certification: Evaluation is ongoing and upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a Life-FEC Consultants Ltd. Certificate of Completion.
