COURSE DESCRIPTION
CPR can save the life of someone you love. This course is designed for the layperson with little or no prior training in CPR. It will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to respond quickly with confidence to a variety of life-threatening breathing and heart-related emergencies in ADULTS, and to provide a certifiable course which may be incorporated into existing training programs of a wide variety of agencies and organizations.
COURSE CONTENT
The following topics are covered through a combination of lectures, practical sessions and scenarios:
- Initial assessment and activating the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System
- Choking - Adult, conscious, conscious to unconscious, unconscious unwitnessed and the Recovery (3/4) position
- Coronary risk factors and prudent heart living
- Signs and signals of a heart attack
- Artificial respiration
- CPR - Adult (1 person), Child, and Infant
- AIDS and other communicable diseases (Pocket Face Mask/Latex Gloves)
- Airway management for neck/spinal injuries (Jaw Thrust)
Certification: Canadian Red Cross/Heart Foundation - Duration: 1 year |

COURSE CONTENT

Respiratory Complications:
- Side stiches
- Shortness of breath
- Rapid breathing (hyperventilation)
- Exercise-induced asthma
- Oxygen use (optional)
- Breath-holding and fainting
- Airway obstructions (choking)
- The unconcious victim (recovery position)
- Artificial respiration
- Disease transmission (pocket face mask/latex gloves)
- Exercise medications
Cardiovascular Complications:
- Lifestyle risk factors
- Angina pectoris
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Cool-down errors
- Heart-rate monitoring
- Exercise medications
- Heart palpitations and arrhythmias
- Sudden death (cardiac arrest)
